AKC Shih Tzu Standard

A compact and solid dog, the Shih Tzu's long, flowing double coat is its most distinctive feature. The word Shih Tzu means "lion" and although this dog is sweet and playful, he is not afraid to stand up for himself!  The Shih Tzu has a distinctively arrogant carriage with his head well up and tail curved over the back.

Shih Tzus  should be lively, alert, friendly and trusting towards all. The Shih Tzu dose not need lots of exercise, but their long, luxurious coat needs daily brushing and maintenance

Shih Tzu Dog is in the Toy Group with in the AKC

Shih Tzu Dogs were first recognized by AKC in 1969

Shih Tzu AKC weight standard is 9-16 lbs

Shih Tzu Sized Sandard is 8 to 11 inches tall at the shoulder

Shih Tzu colors: All are allowed
